The Municipality of East Ferris is very proactive in taking measurers to prolong the life of the Municipal Landfill Site. The site currently has a useful life of approximately 30 years. Council has conducted studies that show it is possible to change the life expectancy with a few simple changes.
- Residents can help by reducing the amount of garbage they contribute to the landfill. Items can be recycled, up–cycled, or given away to non profit organizations rather than dumped at the landfill.
- The Municipality works with Waste Diversion Ontario to set up programs to increase the amount of recycled material each year. There are programs for hazardous waste, electronic waste, recycling tires, and scrap metals.
These items combined with Council’s strong desire to maintain the landfill site for future generations have already begun to make an impact at the landfill site.
