The Township of East Ferris' By-Law #1987 requires that all dogs that you own or harbour must wear a Township dog tag, must be kept on a leash of a maximum length of two (2) metres and/or be confined to your property at all times. Township By-law #1888 states that "No person shall cause or permit the emission of sound, persistent barking, whining or other similar persistent noise making by any domestic pet in the municipality." This By-law is enforced by the Ontario Provincial Police.
Dogs that are permitted to roam are vulnerable to disease and injury. If the dog does not wear a dog tag, it is almost impossible to trace to it's owner. An animal that cannot be traced will be turned over to the Humane Society, held for approximately three (3) days, and then disposed of.
Any dog found at large and/or not wearing a Township dog tag will be subject to a $50.00 fine plus any charges incurred by the Humane Society.
*** Dog Tags are available at the Township Office for a cost of $20.00.
